Nigeria Needs A Unifying Local Language-Indonesian Envoy

9 Januari 2012
Captured from Leadership Newspaper (9-10 January Edition)

Indonesia and Nigeria share many this they are both heavily populated and have multi religious and ethnic backgrounds. In the past, Nigeria and Indonesia were under colonialism and were exploited for hundreds of years. The spirit of Independence, which rose from the Bandung Declaration of 1955, as a result of the Asian African Conference, brought a lot of Asian and African countries toward freedom and Independence. This became the foundation for the two nations to establish diplomatif relations in 1965.

Trade between two countries has reached US$1.2 billion in 2010 and was expected to rech US$1.5 billion at the end of 2011. The trade is in favor of Nigeria but it's still dominated by oil and gas which is 56% of total trade value.

Currently the problem of religious and ethnic diffences in Indonesia have been managed through the promotion of tolerence and increased incomes for the people and implementing many proggrames such as inter-faith dialogue etc. Religious and community leaders are keys to creating harmony in religious life in Indonesia. For that, the Indonesian government was always involving religious and communitu leader to formulate and adopt policies related to inter-religious relations. I (Bpk Sudirman Haseng) hope Nigeria should do same.
